What to Wear for Your Family Session

(and What Not to Wear!)

One of the most common questions I get before a session is: "What should we wear?!" And honestly, it’s a good question! Outfits can make a huge difference in the final look of your photos, and I’m here to help make sure your fam looks their absolute best.

First things first: coordinate, don’t match. Gone are the days of everyone in white shirts and jeans (we’re not doing a 2004 Gap ad).

Instead, think about picking 2-3 main colors and building everyone’s outfits around that palette. I love rich tones like mustard, rust, olive green, and denim blue. Neutrals work great too, especially when layered with textures like knits or linen.

Avoid neon colors and big logos—these can reflect strange colors on the skin or distract from your beautiful faces. Think timeless over trendy. And if your child must wear their Spider-Man shirt, maybe compromise by bringing it out at the end for a few fun shots!

Mamas, I always suggest something flowy—you’ll feel comfortable and look gorgeous when twirling or snuggling your babies. For dads, button-ups or henleys are perfect. And don’t forget shoes! Avoid athletic sneakers unless they fit the vibe. Cowboy boots, sandals, or barefoot in the desert? Yes please!
